About Me

Hey Folks! It's nice to meet you all! My name is Faye Oliver and I've begun a healthy hair care journey along with my sister! I hope you enjoy reading about it :)

About me!

Hey Everyone, thanks for taking the time to look at my blog. This is my first ever post on my new blog! Even though I'm not officially starting my hair journey today, I am avidly preparing myself for what's to come. My start date is currently 22nd October 2011! I'm so very excited! Let me give you a bit of hair history for me :)

Now I have always had thick hair, right from when I was a young sprog I think. I still remember days when my Mother had to comb my hair and it took a whole evening, she had to devote a whole afternoon and evening for wash days. My Mum decided to texturise my hair because the hairdresser said If I didn't do something with it then it would eventually turn in dreadlocks! So I have been every fortunate with my hair because it is thick and my hair hasn't really broken to badly in my life. Oh except for the time I went to a hairdresser who's salon was her back garden shed. My hair was shedding all over the place. But we stopped going to her and the shedding stopped.

Until recently.

This was my hair regimen (I'm ashamed to write it x_x):

Relaxer every 6 weeks
Wash every 6 weeks
Trim every relaxer
Moisturise when my hair was feeling especially dry

No no no no no NO.

I never did treatments, or protective styles. One GOOD thing that I did was not use heat, I've never been a heat junkie, I prefer texture rather then sleek sleek hair but I don't want to go natural Because I remember how my hair was= thick and poofy.

So with all this un-care of my hair, it still managed to thrive and grow and SURVIVE!

But then in the six weeks holidays (which is the annual summer holiday for schools in England.) something changed. It was inevitable, I was abusing my hair, it was going to happen one day.

At the beginning of the holidays, my hair was thick and it had volume, all i had to do was run a comb through the front on some days and leave the house.

And then one day it all changed. It was almost overnight, my hair turned limp, mushy it started shedding like there was no tomorrow. In puzzlement I started to use Carrot Oil. I swore by this oil, I don't know why I did now.

But anyway the shedding was getting worse. I tried to tell my family but they didn't see the difference or damage. They said why did I suddenly care about my hair now, it had been on my head forever, what was so special about now.

Which in all fairness they totally had a point. I don't know what it was that made me realise there was something wrong. Call it an epiphany if you like. I told my sister who was the most understanding about it. She had recently done a big chop and knew all the sites like LHCF. I started to do some research and that was the beginning of the obsession.

My ULTIMATE ULTIMATE goal is WAIST LENGTH HAIR that is HEALTHY AND THICK. Also I am going on this hair journey because I know I have abandoned my hair, ASSUMED that it would always be strong and healthy. Also researching black women's hair that have gone on a healthy hair journey and the length and thickness they have achieved is really inspiring. Also I'm excited to be doing something with my sister, because doing things with her is always fun ^.^

Sorry for the extra long blog post! I'm so excited, please follow I'd really like to have fellow HH Journers (<- is that a word?) :D
